The Heart of Discipleship

“Do your best to win full approval in God’s sight, as a worker who is not ashamed of his work, one who correctly teaches the message of God’s truth.” – 2nd Timothy 2:15 (GNT)

By definition, discipleship is described as the lifelong process of accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and learning to live exactly as He did.

In accepting the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord, we forever proclaim His Majesty; we proclaim Him as Lord. This is who He is in Himself; He is Majestic, He is Lord.

Who is He to me? He is my Saviour, my Master, and my Friend. Jesus has conquered sin and death; this is what He has accomplished for me, for He is Lord.

Thus, the heart of discipleship begins with total devotion to the things of God, including learning and abiding in His Word. Living exactly as Jesus lived comes from obeying His Word day by day and seeking a transformed life. Transformed means experiencing that outward and inward change, which results in a lifestyle of love, service, and bearing spiritual fruit. Discipleship, therefore, produces spiritual outcomes that have kingdom impact.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, today with my discipleship heart, I proclaim You as the Majestic One, my Lord and Saviour. I engage in this lifelong process and commit to bearing fruit according to Your guidance. Help me to proclaim Your Word and Your truth daily. Help me to correctly understand Your Word and teach me to walk in Your ways, in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
