“That the blessings of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” – Galatians 3:14 (KJV)
Myer Pearlman, author of the book ‘Knowing the Doctrines of the Bible,’ said this about The Holy Spirit of Promise, “The Holy Spirit is so called because His grace and power is one of outstanding blessings promised in the Old Testament. Ezekiel 36:27; Joel 2:28; it is the highest prerogative of the Christ or the Messiah, to impart the Spirit, and this Jesus claimed when He said, “Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you (Luke 24:49 Galatians 3:14)”.
The Holy Spirit of Promise not only carries the King of kings’ seal of Christ on the life of the believers, but it also confirms Christ’s promise to never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). If there is a verse that sums up God’s faithfulness, it is this one. The Holy Spirit’s presence represents Christ’s promise that HE will be with us always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). The favour promised, “I am with you”. Not, ‘I will be with you’, but, ‘I am’ – Ego eimi.
Beloved, the Spirit of God confirms that His promises are ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen’ in our lives (2 Corinthians 1:20). We must understand that although friends, family, and brethren may abandon or desert us in times when we need them most, God will never turn His back on us; His eternal presence is always with us. This promise contained in Hebrews 13:5 is preceded by a command: “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have…”. Therefore, He commands us not to put our trust in riches or material goods, which will ultimately fail; instead, we must place our hope in God’s steadfast love and commitment towards us.
Thus, the presence of the Holy Spirit of promise in our lives demonstrates that God will never let go of us, relax His hold on us, or desist from being around us; indeed, He is a true Friend (Romans 5:5). His companionship should be cherished for He makes what is good more attractive and temptations less compelling. That alone should be enough to make us determined to be qualified for the Spirit to be with us always.
If you are a Christian and you are not filled with God’s Spirit, harden not your heart and invite Him into your life today.
