The Miraculous Birth of Yeshua (Jesus)
Luke 1:31- 34 (NIV)
“You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call Him Jesus…“How will this be”? Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” – Luke 1:31- 34 (NIV)
Brethren, the account of Jesus’ miraculous birth is captured in the book of Luke 1:26-38.
Given the fact that Mary was a virgin, she enquired of the angel Gabriel about the manner of her conceiving and was told, “…The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35 – NIV). Emphasis must be made that Jesus was conceived by His mother, Mary, through the power of the Holy Spirit and without sexual intercourse. This revelation explains the mixture of the human and divine natures of Jesus.
Saints, it is amazing to conceptualise that Jesus passed through the womb of Mary in such a miraculous manner without anyone touching her physically. Moreover, one wonders what the labour process was like: was it painful (due to sin, as stated in Genesis 3:16), or was Mary preserved in view of her immaculate conception?
Elect of God, it was necessary for Christ to have both human and divine natures so that, by the power of His divinity, He might bear the weight of God’s anger in His humility and earn for us and restore to us righteousness and life.
John Stott, author of “Basic Christianity,” stated, “God has created. God has spoken. God has acted”. He further stated, “If God has spoken, His last and greatest act is the redemption of the world through Jesus Christ. If God has acted, His noblest act is the redemption of the world through Jesus Christ”. We, Believers, have been given the Ministry of Reconciliation; let us reconcile lost men unto God (2 Corinthians 5: 18-21). This is one of the significances of His birth.
