The Most Significant Weekend – Part 3

“..I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen..”

Matthew 28:5-6 (NKJV)

Jesus’ Death

Jesus was crucified on cavalry, an innocent man Who knew no sin. His death showed His humility. He reduced Himself to nothing to fulfill God’s plan and withstood the punishment for us. He submitted to His Father’s will. James 1:12 (NIV) says, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.”

Jesus’s death was significant to the world because on that day, from the sixth to the ninth hour, darkness came over the land. Jesus then cried out to His Father, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:45-46 – KJV). He then gave up His Spirit to His Father.

Burial of Jesus

Joseph then took Jesus’s body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in a new tomb sealed by a large stone. Guards were placed there to watch the tomb and secure the body.

The Resurrection

After the Sabbath, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, and an angel came down from heaven and rolled back the stone. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The keepers of the tomb were terrified and stood motionless. Can you see it?

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay”Matthew 28:5-6 (NKJV). The women ran to tell the disciples what transpired since their joy could not be contained.

Yes, brethren, it should be the same for us. We should all rejoice that Jesus Christ died in our place and was resurrected so that we may have life in abundance. He met the two Marys and said, “Rejoice…Go and tell My brethren…” – Matthew 28:9-10 (NKJV). Yes, we also must go and tell everyone about the weekend that changed the world. We must never be afraid. Jesus is victorious. Our redemption and salvation is in Him.
