Love

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” – John 15:13 (NKJV)

Love is an emotion that has powerful effects on the person to whom it is given or shared. It is an intense feeling of deep affection or fondness for a person. This was displayed by our God on the cross at Calvary – true love, unconditional love.

John 3:16 (NKJV) tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God demonstrated the power of love for all mankind. Jesus, our Redeemer, our Saviour, submitted to His Father’s will, went to Calvary, died on the Cross so that we who believe in Him can have eternal life. Love in action!

Throughout Jesus’ ministry, we read of the power of love in action. He performed miracles, demonstrating the power of love and compassion to ALL people. His love for humanity cannot be overemphasised.

Friends, the power of love is a mighty tool in the hands of a believer – if we apply it correctly. We are commanded to love our neighbour as ourselves (and win them for Christ). We must help to restore a brother who has fallen seventy times; give generously to a brother or sister who is in need – show sacrificial love, like giving out of our lack, if the need arises. God will repay you. John 15:13 tells us that the greatest form of love is sacrificing for one’s friend – that is the power of love as exhibited by Jesus.

Real love can be shown in many ways. Someone who possesses a heart full of love shows kindness to everyone in unbelievable ways, including always being patient and kind, just like Jesus, our Saviour.

The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 3:18 prayed that all the saints understand what the width and length and depth and height of Christ’s love is – it passes all knowledge. Yes, brethren, love is powerful beyond measure!

When someone experiences genuine love, the love of God, they are overjoyed. A loving person does not keep a score sheet of someone’s wrongs. When love captivates one’s heart, that person seeks to protect others. Love believes all things; it trusts. That’s the beauty and power of love. It creates strong bonds (friendships). Believers who display this kind of love grow in their relationships,  both spiritually and emotionally. They also help others grow – as it should be. Today, make a choice to love, even when it’s hard. God will reward you.
