“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit…” – John 15:5 (NIV)
In a world that celebrates busyness and productivity, it is easy to believe that serving God means doing more. We fill our calendars with good things, yet sometimes neglect the most important thing – simply being with Jesus.
In John 15, Jesus reminds us that He is the vine and we are the branches. A branch does not struggle to produce fruit; it simply remains connected to the vine. In the same way, our spiritual growth and effectiveness flow from our relationship with Christ, not from our own effort.
When we spend time in God’s presence through prayer, Scripture, worship, and quiet reflection, He strengthens us, renews us, and transforms us. Our service becomes an overflow of His life within us rather than a burden we carry alone. Ministry without intimacy leads to exhaustion, but abiding in Christ produces lasting fruit.
Perhaps today Jesus is inviting you to slow down. Instead of striving to accomplish more, take time to rest in His presence. Your identity is not found in what you do for Him but in the wonderful truth that you belong to Him.
Remember, Christian impact is born out of intimacy, not exhaustion. As you abide in Christ, He will faithfully produce the fruit that brings glory to God and blessing to those around you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank You for reminding me that my greatest priority is to remain close to You. Forgive me for the times I have been so busy working for You that I have neglected spending time with You. Teach me to abide in Your Spirt each day. Quiet my heart, strengthen my faith, and help me find my identity in being Your beloved child rather than in my accomplishments. May everything I do flow from a deep and growing relationship with You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
