The Promise of Obedience

For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. – Galatians 3:18 (KJV)

Abram (Abraham) had to ‘do’ in order to access God’s promises:

  1. Leave the city he knew.
  2. Leave his family and go to the land that God will show him.
  3. Believe in God for a great nation.
  4. Believe God will bless him and make his name great.

Abraham was 75 years old, and his wife was considered past childbearing age. Thus, God’s promise to make him a great nation and bless him would have seemed far-fetched to the natural man, but God is a Spirit-being and operates in that realm. Faith is required to operate there.

Abraham sought to be righteous and live worthy of the blessings of God, thereby allowing God to fulfill the covenant with him: promising that he would have plenty and never lack and receive the promised land and the blessings of the priesthood. Abraham operated by faith.

In Exodus, God also shows His continuing love and concern for His people as He promised to (and did) lead them out of slavery into the land He prepared for them. In the same way, God’s covenants with mankind are within the Gospel. He promised blessings for obedience.

We are heirs to the blessings and responsibilities of Abraham’s Covenant, so let’s stay connected and be faithful to the vine to obtain strength and growth and be fruitful. As believers, we should also have a relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. Thus, trusting Him in His word like Abraham. With  God, all things are possible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the many blessings. I come boldly before Your throne seeking mercy for my disobedience. I  ask that You help me to be more like Abraham. Revive me, Father.  The psalmist said in Psalms 85:6, “Wilt Thou not revive us again: that Thy people may rejoice in Thee?” (KJV). Lord, I seek Your direction and Guidance in Jesus’s name. Amen.
