The Rainbow Belongs to us!

“I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.” – Genesis 9:13 (NKJV)

Look up! Do you see that brightly coloured bow in the sky? It is yours and mine! God set it there as a reminder of His great love for us. This love is not only for mankind; God extended it to every living creature. It is an agreement, a promise, a lawful contract between a gracious God and us, a covenant.

This covenant, known as the Noahic Covenant, was made after God had destroyed the earth with a flood. In it, God resets and renews the blessings of His creation. It reaffirms that we are made in His image and likeness, and it authorises us to have dominion over the earth. It also promises to preserve and teach us how to quell the human vices of violence and evil.

It is no wonder, therefore, that the enemy of our souls, the ruler of the dark kingdom, is seeking to claim the rainbow as his own! Recently, this significantly sacred reminder of Creator God’s everlasting love for his creation has been used to represent a way of life that God has called an abomination – Leviticus 18:22-23 (KJV).

The Noahic Covenant seems unconditional; thus, many think it can be easily broken. But no. God’s Word stands forever. And because this covenant also included the earth and its animals, we will do well to obey Leviticus 20:22, which states, “Ye shall therefore keep all My statutes, and all My judgements, and do them: that the land…spue you not out” (KJV).

Beloved, I encourage all of us to whom this promise was given to reclaim our heritage freely given and to stand upon the awesome promise of eternal life. Let’s continue wearing our rainbow-coloured garments without fear of being confused with the enemy’s camp. Those colours are not his. They are ours! The reminder of a promise of everlasting restoration and preservation.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come humbly before You today in repentance for allowing the enemy to stake a claim on what is rightfully ours. We honour You for giving us another chance, both in Noah’s day and now. We thank You for that multi-coloured reminder of Your Covenant, painted so lovingly in the sky, and we pledge to worship You all the days of our lives. Amen.
