The Redemptive Work of Christ – Part 1

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…” Romans 8:1 (NKJV)

The above message is what the redemptive work of Christ accomplishes in the life of the believer; they who walk not after the flesh but…live “according to the Spirit” – (V 1). We are no longer condemned because we have chosen to walk according to the Spirit, which now dwells in and leads us. We are sons of God (Romans 8:14).

God loves us. He wants us saved from the practice of sin; He wants us delivered and set free. He did not send Jesus to condemn us but to redeem us to Himself. That is why Jesus’ blood was shed. That’s what love does. He paid for us with His own blood. Why then should we continue in sin?

Think of it. Your child committed a crime and was found guilty. The penalty was death. However, you decided to pay the price so your child, whom you love, could be saved. That’s what Jesus did for us. We sinned, which separated us from God. We were found guilty and condemned to death. Jesus stepped in and paid with His life to reconcile us to God. We are no longer condemned because He paid the price. We are free, no longer in sin and wantonness, but in the Spirit, in Christ.

That’s why we celebrate Easter. We remember the finished work of Jesus on the cross, His death and resurrection bringing in new life and hope. We are a new creation in Christ Jesus, washed in His blood that was shed for our sins. We owed a debt we could not pay, and He stepped in and paid it in full. Hallelujah!

This Easter, let us reflect on the redeeming power that brings freedom to all who dare to believe and receive Christ. The road to Golgotha was not an easy one. The physical and mental pain Jesus suffered, the rejection, the denial, ridicule, but most of all, the anguish in His voice when He cried out, “…My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?” – Matthew 27:46 (KJV).  Jesus, who knew no sin became sin for us, suffered separation from His beloved Father for a while so that we may be reconciled to God.

Prayer

Jesus, our hearts sing for gladness because of Calvary. Mercy was great, and grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to us. Your love knows no bounds, and we are forever grateful for this. We thank You today and every day for that complete work. Amen.
