“…Our offences and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away because of them. How then can we live?” – Ezekiel 10:33 (NIV)
Beloved, sin was and still is present in this world. We were sinners in need of a Saviour. God saw us drowning in the sea of our sins and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us, as recorded in John 3:16. He came to set the captives free. The devil, however, got wind of the plans and tried to use his emissary, King Herod, to assassinate Him while He was yet a baby in a manger, but God provided a way of escape.
Saints, there was and still is a global concerted effort to trivialise the significance of the birth of Christ. We see instances of slogans with “Merry X Mas” where the letter X connotes an unknown variable. It also means something negative or wrong. We also hear in the International and local media the greetings of “Happy Holidays” and hardly any mention of “Merry Christmas.” The period leading up to Christmas is heavily commercialised and marked by massive consumption of food, confectionaries, and alcoholic beverages. Nothing about the Saviour.
Saints, in the cloudy haze of fun and frolic by our families, friends, and work colleagues, let us focus on the significance of the birth of our Saviour, King Jesus Christ. The benefits of His birth guarantee salvation for those who submit their lives to Him and guarantee a place in Heaven for those who are steadfast in His ways.
In between, we are assured of these benefits as highlighted by the Psalmist David, who declared, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, Who forgives all your iniquities…Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalms 103: 2-5 – NKJV).
This season is about spreading the Gospel of the kingdom. It has come. Have a Christ-centered Christmas, everyone.
