Matthew 26:36 – “ Sit here, while I go and pray over there.”(NKJV)
Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane to pour out His heart to God. It was close to the hour for His submission as the Lamb of God. This was a major part of the purpose that He had to fulfill. He went to pray, as His soul was sorrowful unto death. He said again to His disciples, “Stay here and watch with Me.” Matthew 26:38(NKJV).
Are you in a position like this in your life? Do you have a major decision to make? Do you feel burdened? It is time to PRAY.
Jesus also said, “Watch and PRAY, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41.(NKJV)
What do we know about the flesh? Romans 7:8 tells us that nothing good dwells in our flesh. Romans 8:13 tells us that if we live according to the flesh, we will die (spiritually). Anyone who desires to follow Christ must take up His cross daily (Luke 9:23).
The cross signifies crucifixion. The sin in the flesh must be crucified. Daily repentance is needed to crucify the flesh. A conscious effort must be made to turn away from the things of this world and follow the way of Jesus. One will experience pain and suffering when submitting to crucifying the flesh. This is a part of the process. To give up the pleasures of this world is not easy. Galatians 5:24 reminds us that all who belong to Christ must crucify the flesh with its passion and desires. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to live a victorious Christian life. Fasting and prayer cannot be overemphasized. God is our strength.
