The Spirit of God – A Requirement for Effective Ministry

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me…” – Acts 1:8 (KJV)

I was approached by a cult group who informed me that Jesus Christ is neither the Messiah nor the Son of God, yet we Christians worship the “creature” of God rather than the Creator, Yahweh. I was also told that the New Testament, from Matthew to Revelation, should not be in the Bible because it was based on a false premise that Jesus is the Son of God. This group shared the questionable principles that Yahweh cannot be subdivided into the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, He is transcendent, and He created the earth all by Himself.

Reacting to the accusation of the cult, I informed them that Jesus is the Son of God and I know He is because Jesus said in John 14:26 that “…the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”. I informed them that I tarried for the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus, and He came, and I received the Holy Spirit as was promised in Acts 1:8 after Jesus’ ascension.

I informed the satanic group that Jesus is real because I have used the name of Jesus to pray for persons who were sick and/or possessed and see them healed and/or dispossessed in the name and by the blood of Jesus. I further told the cult of the use of the Power of the Holy Spirit to dismantle demonic altars, structures, and systems constructed to destroy the souls of God’s creation.

I also testified that after I received Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, the transformational power of the Holy Spirit delivered me from sexual addictions, re-ordered my learning disorder, and caused me to be a recipient of two earned degrees. Moreover, doors were opened for me to walk into a high-income job and promotion up the corporate ladder, among other things. Two of the cult members knew of my family background and knew of my humble beginnings – the one marked ‘most unlikely to succeed’. The testimony brought a halt to the imposition.

Beloved, in our Christian walk, we will be challenged to defend our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, but as we embrace God’s will, the Holy Spirit will give us the wisdom and empowerment to be effective witnesses for the Kingdom of God.
