The Spirit of God Represents the Mind of Christ

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” – 1 Corinthians 2:12 (NKJV)

The mind of Christ is given to believers through the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:16), and therefore, the attitude of the believer is to resemble the attitude of Christ, which is one of humility and obedience (Philippians 5:8)

Having the mind of Christ means sharing the plan, purpose, and perspective of Christ, and it is something that all believers possess. Having the mind of Christ means we understand and trust God’s plan in the world: to receive glory to Himself, restore creation to its original splendor, and provide salvation to sinners. It means we identify with God’s purpose “to seek and save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). It means we share Jesus’ perspective of humility, obedience, compassion (Matthew 9:36), and prayerful dependence on God (Luke 5:16).

Myer Pearlman, in his book ‘Knowing the Doctrines of the Bible,’ stated, “The Holy Spirit makes possible and real the continued presence of Christ in the Church”. Elaborating, he further stated, “It is He (The Holy Spirit) Who causes the person of Christ to dwell in them so that they acquire the right to say with Paul “Christ liveth in me”. He further declared that “It is, therefore, the Life of Christ, the sentiments of Christ, the virtues of Christ that the Spirit communicates to believers; it is after the likeness of Christ that He fashions them, and after the model which He had left us”. Myes concluded by emphasising the fact that “Without Christ, the Spirit has nothing to produce in the heart of the believer.” If we take away Christ and His Word, it is like removing the feature from a great work of art.

Watchman Nee, the author of ‘The Spiritual Man’, affirmed that “God grants us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation as well as spiritual comprehension and that the wisdom and revelation we obtain in the Spirit needs to be understood spiritually. Revelation is what we receive from God; understanding assists us to comprehend what is revealed. Spiritual understanding furnishes us the meanings of all the movements within our spirit so that we can comprehend God’s will”.

Beloved, all that we need is in the presence of God, and the presence of God is placed within us in the person of the Holy Spirit. Our Lord Jesus Christ declares that The Spirit of Truth (Holy Spirit) will guide us into all truths (John 16:13). Whatever questions you have on God’s purpose for your life, consult with the Holy Spirit, and He will edify you accordingly.
