Time To Spread Love

Time To Spread Love

Luke 2:6-7 (NIV)

“While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” – Luke 2:6-7 (NIV)

I have been thinking about the goodness of God and how fascinating He is in His infinite wisdom. I couldn’t help but think that if there ever were a moment in time when God could have revealed His plan for us with a grandiose and glorious exhibit, it would have been Jesus’ birth. Instead, what we learned about Jesus’s birth was exceptionally modest and ordinary.

It had me pondering how much we have changed the beliefs and the spirit of Christmas to accommodate the world. It seems we want our Christmas these days to be exclusively about gifts and spectacles. We value the gifts and decorations more than the people we celebrate the season with. We have forgotten that the first Christmas was not about gifts, money, or decorations. It was simply about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. The birth of a baby represents joy; therefore, the spirit of Christmas should be a joyous time with the people you love, not with things.

We can get so caught up in spending too much strength on material things we forget to love, laugh, live, and enjoy spending time with the people we care about. The spirit of Christmas should be about love, humility, and happiness. We need to spread it to people who need them consciously. It is not about celebrating our richness and praising the wealthy. Take time to help the poor and oppressed. Spread the love.

Remember, the inn had no room for Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. Thus, we should be ensuring that we are making room for the poor and the oppressed people in our spread of influence and the world at large. Jesus’s first bed was a manger, but He changed the history of the world forever and taught us the importance of love.  It is the only way of existence.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive us for getting so busy with all the material things at Christmas. We confess we do spend time engaging with everything except our Lord and Saviour, Jesus. We thank You, oh God, for understanding what Christmas is all about, and we declare that we will spend time with people we love and those in need.  This we pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
