To be Saved

Romans 5:12 (NKJV)

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.

“Saved? From what?” Those were the challenging questions thrown at me, and my two closest friends on the second day in Bible College. On day one the lecturer handed us clean sheets of paper and told us to write an account of the last time we witnessed to someone for the Lord Jesus Christ! Most of us were shocked as she announced that it was a test, which was going to be graded. The following day we were placed in small groups. We didn’t know what to expect. She then told us then to go out into the community, witness to a few persons, and return prepared to verbally share our experiences. Wow!

Well, my friends and I set off. We prayed as we walked, asking God to give us favour and give receptive hearts to the persons we would approach. We turned the corner, and there, right in front of a school, was a security guard. We confidently approached him. One of my friends introduced us and asked for a few minutes of his time. He agreed, and my other friend asked the all-important question. “Are you saved?” This is the question that demands an immediate and sensible answer.

So what is the answer to this question? First of all, once we repent, we are saved from sin. Acts 3:19 says “Repent ye therefore,…that your sins may be blotted out,…”

Secondly, we are saved from death and now inherit everlasting life. John 5:24 says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears my Word, and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has passed from death into life.”

Finally, and most wonderfully, we are saved from being rejected, and now become sons of Almighty God. John 1:12 says, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

In concluding, before we left the young man that night, he invited us to come again and share some more of the Good News with him. Three visits later, he committed his heart to the Lord! He had become convinced that he needed to be saved. Today I ask, are you saved? If you are, Bless God! Please remain committed to the kingdom. If not, won’t you seek to be saved from sin (disobedience to God), from death, from rejection and separation from God? It is so simple. Please pray with me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, today we thank You for saving us by Your grace. Thank You that we have passed from death unto life. Thank You that we can now cry, “Abba, Father” and know that we are heard. Please give us a heart for those who are still to be saved, and help us to be good examples for them. These mercies we ask in the name of the Father, and of The Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
