“…take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” – 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
Marcus Aurelius states, “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”
As children of God and His representatives on earth, God has given us power, authority, and dominion to overcome adversities and adversaries. Therefore, we must harness the power of our thoughts.
Ephesians 6:12 says that our fight is not with flesh and blood but with powers and principalities. To win this fight, hands are not needed; it must be won with our minds and mouths, as we warfare.
Knowing the authority you have in Christ will move you to take possession of all God has prepared for you.
The question is, “How do I take control of my thoughts when they just pop into my head? The answer is simple:
- Meditate daily on the Word of God (Joshua 1:8)
- Study the Word of God diligently to show yourself approved (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- Become an earnest and lifelong student of the art of spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:13)
Beloved, change will only come when the mind opens. The mind opens when the Word of God is applied. One must be disciplined in order to incur positive changes.
God could have transported His children out of Egypt in an instant. But He knew that they needed to discard the Egyptian way of thinking in order to listen to Him. Therefore, they had to go through development; their character had to be developed. Quick success builds your ego, but slow success builds your character, and it all starts with the way you think.
Since our battles take place in the spiritual realm (our mind), let us gird up the loins of our mind (1 Peter 1:13), renew our mind (Romans 12:2), and put on the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).
Remember: Victory comes in a package called “OBEDIENCE”
