We Are Blessed When We Say Thanks

When our prayers are answered, we give God praise so that it continues to go well with us. Our enemies will also realise we serve a mighty God – 1 Samuel 2:1-2 (NLT). After victory, we rejoice – Isaiah 41:16 (NLT). Overwhelmed with confusion or grief? This is when we go into overdrive, to the next level of sacrifice – Psalm 116:4-5; 17-18. When all hope is lost, this is when we rejoice in the Lord – Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NLT). Brethren, we receive the blessing once we remain faithful and trust in the Lord.
The account of the ten lepers in the book of Luke 17:12-18 clearly depicts the reason we should say thanks. One of the ten men who realised he was healed became filled with gratitude and ran back to Jesus praising God in a loud voice, and threw himself at the feet of Jesus to thank Him (V 16). Interestingly, he was a Samaritan, a people the Jews hated and considered beneath their standing in society – the unspiritual!
A profound question was asked by Jesus, “Were not ten lepers cleansed? But where are the nine?” – V 17. Friends, only the one who returned to say ‘thanks’ received the additional blessing of complete healing (V 19). It is wise and beneficial to always give God thanks with a grateful heart.
Prayer
Our God in heaven, we welcome You and we thank You for all you’ve done for us. You reign forever, and great is Your faithfulness. We rejoice with gratitude for every gift of favour, and Your generosity of grace, mercy, and peace in our everyday walk with You. Grant us a cheerful spirit when things don’t go our way. Help us to continue to trust You, in spite of all that is going on around us at this time. Strengthen us, even now, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
