“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” – Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV)
The forgiveness of sins means that we have redemption. We have been redeemed. We are redeemed! Redeem means to recover ownership of something by “buying it back” by payment of a “ransom”. In this case, through the payment of Jesus’s blood, given as a sacrifice for our sins.
In Romans 7:14 (NKJV), Paul said, “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.” The setting and environment of that day spoke of the Roman slave trade. He was saying that someone sold as a slave had no options; that person was for sale whether they agreed to be sold or not.
When someone is a slave, that person has no choice. Two persons may be sold together; however, the owner may make one a house slave working in the kitchen, and the other may be working a field. The same is true with us. As sinners, we may be good, admirable sinners and look down on the addicts or who we perceive to be worse sinners. But the fact is, it is the master who determines the slave’s service.
But there is good news. The Good News is that Jesus came and bought us all when he was crucified on Calvary over 2,000 years ago. He boldly said to satan that He paid the price. Our sins are forgiven. We are now sons and daughters of the Most High God. This is redemption, which can only come through the forgiveness of sins.
Prayer
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for dying on the cross just for me. I declare that Jesus repurchased me from satan to God Almighty. He was punished so that I might be forgiven, and for this, I bless You, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
