“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7 (NKJV)
Today, let us examine wrappings. Anyone who has ever received presents (gifts) knows that sometimes what is outside of the package is no match for the actual present. A gift item of most value can sometimes be placed in a simple cardboard box and wrapped in gift paper. The value of the exterior of the present would be no indication of the value of the actual present.
Life can be like that at times. We may be quick to judge or make an assumption based on how things look on the surface, but if we are willing to go deeper, we will find real value. This can apply to our relationships with people. How often do we judge people by merely looking at them? And how often are we wrong? Not every time, but enough for us to know that we are not always right.
I believe sometimes we struggle to know and submit to God’s plan for our lives because we struggle to recognise it as God’s plan, and even when we do recognise it, we disbelieve. God’s plan for our lives won’t always look like we expect. Think about the Jews waiting for a saviour to deliver them from Roman oppression, but Jesus, the Saviour, came preaching love and liberty from sin. God’s plan walked and talked with them, but He wasn’t packaged as mighty and glorious as they were expecting; hence, some did not believe.
What has God been saying to you? Or showing you? Are you trusting and obeying, or have you been doubting and running because, well, it’s not what you expected? I submit to you that God’s thoughts are far superior to ours in every way, and He always knows what He is doing. He who cares for the birds and flowers (God) also has the capacity to care for us more than any other person can. His will for our lives is always valuable, and His love is incomparable. Trust Him today. Trust Him and His packaged plan for your life.
