What Is In Your Cart?

What Is In Your Cart?

Jeremiah 33:6 (NIV)

“…I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people…” – Jeremiah 33:6 (NIV)

I once found myself observing the types of food people consume by their checkout items at the supermarket. Where I reside now, I noticed as much as 80% of items included fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat while my cart was loaded with processed food. Over time, my cart started to reflect a healthier balance, and I felt better about what my family was feeding on. Today, I want to ask the question: “What is in your shopping cart?”

1 Corinthians 6:19 asks us a similar question: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God?…” (NIV).

Global trends today indicate an upsurge in non-communicable diseases (NCDs), resulting in forty-one million deaths annually per World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics. 77% of those deaths are in low and middle-income countries. Cardiovascular diseases followed by cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes (including kidney disease deaths caused by diabetes) account for the majority of those deaths, coined as ‘premature.’ May our lives never come to a premature end, in Jesus’ name.

Social factors such as urbanisation, changes in diet, and lifestyle have all contributed to an increased incidence of NCDs. And God is gently reminding us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that we are not our own since we were bought at a price and must therefore honour Him with our bodies.

As we observe Family Month at First Assembly of God Wortmanville (FAOGW), let us petition God for wisdom to adopt a healthier family diet and lifestyle, coupled with exercise and an intentional mental well-being routine. In Jeremiah 33:6, God promises us health and healing. Let us treasure our earthly bodies and begin to create a healthy family legacy and healthier shopping carts.
