When God Says Go

‘The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you…So Abram went, as the Lord had told him…’ – Genesis 12:1,4 (NIV)

Our God and Father in heaven is faithful and loving, and only wants the best for us. He consistently saves, keeps, satisfies, and delivers us every moment of the day. For these and more, we say, “Thank you, Father.”

Sometimes, in the moment of going about our comfortable and merry lives, we will hear words from our God and Father that can shift our present comfort. Abram was caught in such a moment. This same faithful and loving God wanted Abram to leave his native land and his relatives and go to the land God would show him. Imagine enjoying a life of comfort among the people you love, only to be asked to move. There can be numerous reasons for not wanting to disrupt our present comfort, but God always knows best. His wisdom surpasses any human reasoning. We can trust Him.

By faith, Abram obeyed God when God spoke to him. God said, “Go”, so Abram went. I want to believe that Abram’s move was free of unpleasant, dramatic encounters because I believe prompt obedience saves us from many such situations. Some people, however, only move in obedience when situations become unpleasant and unbearable, but this is not God’s original intent. God simply requires us to develop habitual obedience powered by faith. Because of our human limitations, we cannot know all that is to come, but we can trust God, who is always faithful and loving toward us. Like Abram, let us be guided by our faith in God. When God says to go, let us go. Bountiful blessings await!

Prayer

Our Father in heaven. Thank you for Your love and Your faithfulness. Thank You for teaching us from Abram’s life. Help us to live a life of faith in You with the quiet and unwavering assurance that You, oh God, will take care of us and bless us abundantly as we obey You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
