“And because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.”
Exodus 1:21 (NIV)
There is nothing new under the sun. The challenges we face today are similar to those in ancient history. The Hebrew midwives, while under tremendous pressure from the authorities, chose to protect the sanctity of life when they were told to kill all the Hebrew male babies. They made the correct life-giving decision when it mattered most.
As a result of them fearing God and choosing to obey His laws:
- They were blessed as individuals
- Their families were blessed
- The Jewish nation was blessed, and they became even more numerous (Exodus 1:20)
As we navigate this journey called life, we must know that we can depend on God. He will give us the strength to do what is right because He has a plan for our lives. Like the Hebrew midwives, fear God and pursue righteousness. By doing this, you will be persuaded to act justly. We can choose to be morally and spiritually upright, especially when challenges or hardships arise.
Women of the 21st century, let us follow Shiphrah and Puah’s (Exodus 1) example of doing what is right. When we obey God, He will bless us in this lifetime with His blessings that make us rich and add no sorrows (Proverbs 10:22). These blessings will impact our present and future generations (Deuteronomy 7:9).
Today, as you go about doing your daily duties and interacting with people, know that whatever is demonstrated in word, thought, or deed will either attract curses or blessings; the power is in your hands. Choose to be blessed. Be careful and try your best to make the right decisions for you and your generations. Be women of faith and courage!
