Women of Valour – Part 1

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.”

Proverbs 31:25 (ESV)

Today, we reflect on the importance of celebrating women in the Bible. Throughout history, women have played significant roles in shaping the course of humanity, and the Bible is no exception. From Eve, the first woman created by God, to Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, women have profoundly impacted the unfolding of God’s plan.

One of the most striking examples of a woman’s impact on God’s plan is found in the book of Judges. Deborah, a prophetess, and judge, was called by God to lead Israel in battle against the Canaanites. Despite the prevailing cultural norms of her time, Deborah courageously stepped up to the challenge and led her people to victory. Her leadership and faithfulness inspired the Israelites and served as a testament to God’s power working through anyone, regardless of gender.

Another powerful example of a woman’s impact on God’s plan is found in the account of Ruth. After her husband’s death, Ruth chose to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, and follow her (Naomi’s) God. Through her faithfulness and devotion, Ruth became a vital part of God’s plan to bring about the lineage of Jesus Christ. Ruth’s story is a beautiful reminder that our actions can significantly impact God’s plan, no matter how small they seem.

Finally, we cannot forget Mary’s role in the birth of Jesus Christ. Mary’s obedience to God’s

will and willingness to serve as the mother of our Saviour serves as a model for all believers. Mary’s faithfulness reminds us that God chooses to work through ordinary people like us to accomplish His extraordinary purposes.

As we celebrate women in the Bible, we must remember that their stories are not just tales of historical significance. They are living examples of God’s power and faithfulness. Through their examples, we are encouraged to live a life of faithfulness and service to God, knowing that He can use us to accomplish great things for His kingdom.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the women of the Bible who have played such significant

roles in Your plan for humanity. We ask that You help us learn from their examples and live lives of faithfulness and service to You. May we always remember that You can use anyone, regardless of gender, to accomplish Your purposes, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
