Faith Not Sight

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2nd Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

The Lord has blessed us with five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Each day, we rely on them to navigate our lives. For instance, we use our sense of smell to determine whether food is pleasant to eat. Similarly, we use our sense of sight to find a clear path to walk or one that has the fewest obstacles because it makes our journey easier.

Unfortunately, the same does not apply in the spirit. Navigating life in the spirit is simply by faith. It is our quiet confidence in God Almighty through the leading of the Holy Spirit that directs our every move. From selecting food to choosing clothes to making simple or major decisions, these and more should all be based on faith.

Now “faith [simply] means being sure of the things we hope for. And faith means knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.” (Hebrews 11:1 – ICB). Faith in action causes us to move confidently based on our hopes, regardless of the physical sensations of our five senses. Understand this: though the detections of our senses are worthwhile and important, they can be misleading or shortsighted.

We are to walk by faith. This means living our lives based on trust in God’s guidance and promises. Walking by faith is about relying on convictions of the Holy Spirit and trusting in God’s plan rather than relying solely on what can be seen or understood by our five senses.

Dear brothers and sisters, God is pleased when we live by faith. It is our faith in action that causes us to sit on a chair, confident that it will not collapse. It is our faith that causes us to freely eat, assured that the food is not poisonous. Further, it is our faith that causes us to make major investments, though we may not have the full picture of the end results.

‘Without faith, it is impossible to please God’ (Hebrews 11:6), so let us develop lives of perpetual faith and please Him. May our faith be unquenchable as we grow day by day. Shalom.

Prayer

Father in heaven, thank You for who You are and for the faith You give. Help me live a life trusting in, growing, and relying on You daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
