A Heart of Integrity

“Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?…He that walketh uprightly…and speaketh the truth in his heart.” – Psalm 15:1-2 (KJV)

Cleaning up the heart begins with allowing God to examine who we truly are, beyond our outward appearance. We may appear righteous before others, but God looks beyond our actions to examine our motives, intentions, and thoughts. He desires a heart that is sincere, truthful, and committed to righteousness.

Integrity is more than simply telling the truth. It means living consistently with our Christian values, both publicly and privately. It involves doing what is right even when nobody is watching, acknowledging our mistakes, and refusing to manipulate the truth to protect our reputation or gain an advantage.

Proverbs 4:23 (KJV) says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Our words and actions reflect the condition of our hearts. Pride, fear, and selfish ambition can tempt us to conceal our mistakes, exaggerate our achievements, or blame others. God calls us to examine our motives and allow Him to remove anything that prevents us from walking in truth.

Integrity, therefore, is further demonstrated through our actions. “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much…” (Luke 16:10, KJV) reminds us. Thus, in our responsibilities, we must be honest, fair, accountable, and faithful. This means keeping our promises to all, regardless of position or influence that may attempt to influence us. Ephesians 4:25 (KJV) says, “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour…”

Sometimes telling the truth may be uncomfortable or costly, but this is something else integrity requires: courage. We may fear criticism, embarrassment, or the loss of an advantage. However, God calls us to choose truth over convenience and righteousness over personal gain. We should speak honestly and lovingly, accept responsibility for our mistakes, and make corrections where necessary.

Cleaning up the heart through integrity requires a willingness to let God examine our inner lives and correct our ways. We must not only appear righteous but genuinely desire to live truthfully before God and others. We may fall short, but God’s grace enables us to repent, grow, and develop Christlike character so we can persevere.

Remember: Integrity is not merely about what people see; it is about who we are before God when nobody else is watching.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Search my heart and reveal anything that is dishonest, insincere, or displeasing to You. Give me the courage to speak the truth, acknowledge my mistakes, and act with fairness and righteousness. Help me to remain faithful to Your Word, even when doing what is right is difficult. May my thoughts, words, and actions reflect the character of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
