“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ often quote the above Scripture when asked, “What is faith?” During times of trials and sorrows, one may be encouraged to “not lose the faith,” and during times of doubt and weakness, the common encouragement is to “hold the faith”. One may consider that if faith could be lost, then it could also be found? So, where is faith located?
I found myself pondering this question and more; I have usually found solace in my personal favourite Scripture on faith:
“ So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
Whenever I find myself losing hope or needing to strengthen my belief, I intentionally remind myself of the Scriptures, meditate on them, or listen to solid, Word-based teaching sermons by faithful servants of God.
Friends, you may have an important task or assignment and find yourself unable to function properly. Anxiety stepped in. Fear arose. Faith that all will be well tomorrow declined. Read God’s Word:
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV): “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
John 14:27 (NKJV): “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Deuteronomy 1:30 (NIV): “The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes.”
The Word of God is powerful, trustworthy, and faith-empowering. Though I may not fully understand how God strengthens our faith, I trust His limitless power and unfailing faithfulness to see me through.
Will you hear and let your faith come today?
