Love the Reason Not Just the Season

Isaiah 9:6

Christmas is a very special time of the year and as families, we have certain traditions we uphold. Living in Linden as a little girl, I remembered travelling to the village we called home to spend the holiday season. My mother did her best.  Every year she made sure that everything we needed and desired as a family was available. The holiday surrounded her.

But one Christmas she became ill and was hospitalised. That meant we could not go home for Christmas, and of course, no one could do things the way she did. My siblings tried their best to uphold the tradition but a void existed that nothing or no one could fill. I was sad. Christmas would not be the same without Mommy’s presence.

I have shared this life experience that occurred many years ago. I would like to ask you the following questions: What does Christmas mean to you? Are you depending on someone or something to make this holiday season meaningful? As a child I did not understand the real meaning of the season. Our Lord and Saviour, who was born in a manger, came to die for you and I so that we can have abundant life (Matthew 1:21). He is willing to come into our hearts once we allow Him and fill the void that exists, meet our needs and bring comfort, especially when we are distraught and things seem hopeless.

Jesus is the reason for the season, so wherever you find yourself this Christmas and in whatever circumstance, whisper a prayer to Him and He will meet you at the point of your need. (John 14:13-14)
