What Does it Mean to be Blessed Coming In and Going Out?

“Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.” Deuteronomy 28:6 (KJV)

The above Scripture is one of the many blessings that the Israelites would experience once they obeyed God’s instructions – every aspect of their lives would be blessed. The Lord will cause their enemies who rise up against them to be defeated before their faces. They shall come out against them one way and flee before them seven ways (Verse 7).

Similarly, when we obey the commands of the Lord and walk in His ways, the Lord will establish us as His Holy people, as He solemnly promised to do (Ephesians 2:5-6). The blessings of Deuteronomy 28 were made based on the covenant with Moses. According to the Law, the Israelites were to live in certain holy ways. They were also to worship God only. Thus, when we obey God, we will be blessed, but when we disobey, we will be cursed. It, therefore, requires us to walk in obedience to God’s law. We must first obey; then, the Lord will bless us.

The law was our tutor; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. But now Jesus has come. He tore open the veil in the Holy of Holies that separated man from God. He made a way that we can become the sons and daughters of God and access Him directly.

Galatians 3:25-29 says we no longer need the law as our guardian. We have Jesus as our Saviour! Furthermore, Galatians 3:13-14 states that He redeemed us from the curse of the law, and we received the Abrahamic blessings. Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law that held us as prisoners.

Brethren, we’re blessed by the blessings of Abraham coming into the period of the law, and we’re blessed through Jesus Christ by the New Covenant of grace going out of the period of law. Coming and going, we’re completely blessed by God. Doubly blessed and fully at rest. All because of Jesus and His all-encompassing love for us.

The blessing is promised. Let us hearken to the voice of God and allow His power to work in our families and nations.

Prayer

Father, we ask for Your blessing upon us. We thank You that we have this great power, this wonderful wisdom to seek Your goodness and to pursue Your peace in Jesus’ name, Amen.
