“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – John 14:27 (NIV)
Life often feels unpredictable. Our plans may change, challenges arise, and then, without a doubt, uncertainty quietly creeps in. But in John Chapters 13-14, Jesus speaks to His disciples on the eve of His crucifixion. He knows too well what the pain of betrayal feels like, what suffering is like, and He knows for sure the agony of the upcoming cross. Yet, in the midst of it all, He assures His disciples of His peace and reminds them that He is in control.
Today, we see news and headlines about tragedies, political division, economic instability, and social conflict. At the same time, many of us have to deal with personal struggles like financial issues, joblessness, illnesses, grief, or broken relationships. To us, the chaos we encounter may appear different from it did in the disciples’ time, but one thing remains the same: Jesus Christ’s promise remains unchanged.
Jesus has never promised lives free of difficulties. However, He did promise us His presence, His peace, and His authority over every circumstance. Nothing that happens in our lives or in the world is beyond His knowledge or control.
When we consider the cross, it seems like total defeat. But what seemed like defeat became the greatest victory in history. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He conquered sin and death forever. And that same victory is our anchor today.
Even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, Jesus reigns as Sovereign Lord. The good news is that He is not surprised by our challenges, nor is He shaken by any turmoil in the world. Jesus’ peace is not fragile or temporary; it is steadfast and unshakable, and that is because it is rooted in His eternal power and authority.
When the news becomes overwhelming, or your personal struggles feel overwhelming, remind yourself that Jesus already knows the outcome. Scripture continually anchors us in the truth that His promises are timeless and unchanging. We are called to let go of control and surrender daily to His sovereignty. In doing so, we embody His peace – showing the world that we are not ruled by fear or anxiety but by confidence in the One who reigns over every circumstance.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the same yesterday, today, and forever. In a world filled with uncertainty, thank You for reminding me that You are in control. Help me, Lord Jesus, to surrender my fears and anchor myself in Your Word. Help me live with the peace You so freely give. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
