“He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.” – Psalm 107:29 (NIV)
In this troubled world in which we live, we need “peace”- a calm response at all times, to help us to cope with the challenges of life. Storms come in varied forms, viz., inability to cope with examinations; violent family disagreements; death in a family; financial problems; loss of a job, just to name a few.
In John 16:33 (NIV), Jesus speaks to his disciples and to us, saying, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” So, we must trust in the Lord with all our heart when we encounter serious storms or challenges in life. Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, has already overcome every crisis that may arise, and is the only One who can give us the “peace,” the calm we need to save or help us.
Unsound minds are usually the result of terrible storms, especially when we do not know Jesus. Hence, the peace of God is the answer one needs to calm or quiet one’s mind in times of trials and storms to avoid stress or burnout. Christ is our peace.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27, NIV). The smiles of the world cannot be compared to the peace of God. The peace of God is reconciliation, trust, and love for one another. This leads to peace of mind, arising from the tranquility of the spirit; one of the valuable legacies Jesus has left for us to adopt and share with others.
Brethren, do not be dismayed, Jesus overcame the world’s problems; He has won the “Victory” for all of us. Hallelujah!
